AZIZ is beaming with pride of the large hearts we have in Massage Therapists Misty H., and Heather D. – who have generously donated their time to be on-hand the day of the event to offer massage sessions to aid teams, and runners who have given their day, night, and weekend to walk and run in the Relay for Life. In taking a moment aside for reflection, when asked why donate their time and services to others that are rallying for a cause, their responses rang true for many of us. For Misty H., her “grandfather died of cancer when (she) was 2. The only vague memory (she) has of him is the smell of pipe smoke. (Her) dad has had prostate cancer and a life time friend has been battling cancer for over 20 years.” For Heather D., “this disease hits very close to home. (She) recently lost a very close and dear cousin at the age of 31 from a rare form of cancer that typically develops in men in their 60’s. (Her) cousin left behind a one year old son after 8 months of fighting for her life. (She) also has several friends who have had or are battling different forms of cancer right now.”
Life is relentless, the battle with cancer shouldn’t be. Relay For Life is an organization that is a subset of the American Cancer Society. It is “a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society.” One thing that we think everyone can agree on; Cancer is an ugly thing. At AZIZ we like to define beauty as a feeling. Everyone deserves to look and feel beautiful from the inside-out. For those that bravely face wars with cancer within themselves, or through a loved one we offer our praise, and a warm smile. full of hope. full of fight. For Heather D., “a beautiful person lights up the room when they walk in with their energy, sparkling eyes, warm friendly face and gentle smile.” it’s something that we strive to exude constantly at AZIZ with our guests, and team members. It’s an aspect of our experience that we truly believe in. “Beauty is not in the face, but the light in someone’s heart”, stated Misty H. when asked what makes someone Beautiful.
Heather D. also stated that, “A beautiful person… takes actions towards making a difference in others lives for the better, performs random acts of kindness and,” to encapsulate the actions of our team members here at AZIZ, “- does not act with the expectation to receive in return.” The ways and forms that we, as individuals, are able to contribute are different. As a massage therapist, it should come as no surprise that for Misty H., she likes “giving the gift of touch and hearing the stories of hope and perseverance.” While Heather D. concurred that donating her “time & service to this organization is (her) way of contributing to fight the beast in hopes that someday this disease will not exist.” It is acts of kindness from our team members, that strengthen our community, and promotes awareness for differing causes that hold the same sentiment at AZIZ; We are all of us; beautiful.
